In order to draw attention to the now somewhat shelved issue of SOPA and PIPA, two bills that, if passed, would have the potential to indefinitely and without real cause shut down websites and even entire servers, many sites, Google included, blacked out their logos — and even their entire websites — in order to make a statement, on January 18th.
Many other sites, including Flickr, PayPal, and Wikipedia, all blacked out their logos on January 18h to show their support in opposing the two bills.
