Google Base Tips

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

So we all know froogle / Google Base or plan old Google Shopping, a colleague asked me the other day if I had any tips for running a feed into Google shopping… (he is the feed master btw) so I thought why not blog on it!

Tips for Google Base:

  • Most important is not optimizing your site for Google base, but the attributes for it! This way you don’t mess up what you already got going on!
  • Make sure KW variation is in the googlebase-name that pulls into the feed that is powered by YSW!
  • Don’t OVER saturate KW!
  • Don’t add worlds that will de-value your product name – such as: – pretty, cool, you will love it, must have, free, (these are kind like stop words in SEO

Flash is no, no for SEO

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Is Flash good for your SEO? If your goal is to achieve higher rankings on the search engines than unfortunately my answer is no.  While there have been some efforts made in attempts to read past the flash scripting, unfortunately search engines are not yet capable of parsing much from them at all.

Because of this, an unwise decision to maximize such graphics in trade may actually mean a drop in rankings.
Flash certainly has it’s place in some venues, just not at the exclusion of keyword rich content your site requires to get you indexed.  If it’s the flawless movement of objects, roll overs, scrolls and graphics that trips your graphic trigger, try finding a team who knows how to structure and implement java scripting code, such as AJAX  or even some CSS to achieve such features in ways that are still beneficial to your Search Engine Optimization goals.

Blogging… why? for who?

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

What is blogging all about?

“The new Web is a very different thing. It’s a tool for bringing together the small
contributions of millions of people and making them matter. Silicon Valley consultants
call it Web 2.0, as if it were a new version of some old software. But it’s really a
revolution.” Lev Grossman, TIME Magazine, “Person of the Year, You”

When you look at a blog it just looks like another site… but its not, a blog is fresh, updated content that can keep your surfers (visitors) updated on what, when and why for products, promotions and more…  all the things you want to add to your site but cant.. here is your chance!

In return what does your main site get out of this if this is to promote your site? Links! Refresh Content! and more exposure!
