SEO Tip: Propely name your Images

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Sometimes in SEO, it pays off to be proactive and foreword thinking, not purely reactionary.  It pays to be the leader, not the follower.  How does this relate to naming images?  Well as of right now, the consensus is that naming you images accordingly doesn’t have a significant, if any, increase in SEO results… but it could in the future.

Why do we say this?  Well why not?  Google indexes text/ data, as well as images to make them relevant.  Whats to stop them from combining them in the future?  Not only that, but properly naming you images will help you in organization.

So how do you properly name an image? Good question and as of right now, there is not “perfect” answer but the same holds true as with all things, make it relevant.  If your image is of a golf putter you are selling, whay have it named “putt0234img.jpg” when it could be named “golf-putter-01.jpg”?  Clearly its obvious what the last image is, and if its this obvious to you, why wouldnt it be to the search engines?

Be proactive, think outside the box.  Even if 1 of 4 things you try works, that’s 1 thing more than your competitor.

Where are you ranked, really?

Monday, February 15th, 2010

If you are tempted right now to open your browser type in a keyword followed by a line by line Google inventory to find your positioning, chances are that you really don’t have a clue about where you are ranked among your peers and competitors online. Realizing the status of your positioning in a multitude of terms along with understanding why you are positioned in those locations is invaluable to serious e-commerce businesses–you have to know exactly where you are in order to get to where you want to be!

An in-depth review and analysis of your website should come with a myriad of information such as a complex listing of where you are ranked for all the major terms in your industry. Also, because linking is so important to search engine optimization, a quality report will also show you how many inbound links both you and your competition have. Density analysis in a report is another valuable asset as this report specifically breaks down the phrase density on your pages and helps you to see the keywords and phrases for which your page is actually optimized. At SEOwhat.com we include these items, and several others in our Step 1 Website Review and Analysis report because we realize the valuable difference these results can make for your online presence.

If you want to know where you are ranked, really, this invaluable review and analysis information might just be the leverage you need to propel you to the next level.

Reoccurring SEO Matters by C7

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

For those of you heard me babble, you hear me say creditability, making a quality mark with Google, keep it fresh, reoccurring is key! and many things more I say… well i feel like I have some back up to that now for all my followers to see:

Matt Cutts of Google. He states, “In order to prevent things from becoming stale, we tend to use the current link graph, rather than a link graph of all of time.”

Keep it going… one month just ant going to cut it, even after 6 months you still need to prove to Google your creditability and that you the webmaster/ website are here to win it in the Search Engine Land!

So I guess that does mean C7 inst selling, she is just telling it how she knows it. >> keep your monthly seo package, stick with your plan, and never look back!

Can You Overdo It With Anchor Text

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

The short answer is YES – you can ‘overdo it’ with anchor text and here’s why:
Having all your inbound links look the same looks like automation or spam – something Google frowns upon. To avoid this mix, it up a bit.

Use your URL sometimes, your company name other times, a main keyword “SEO Experts” occasionally, “SEO information” as well, “best SEO company” some other times, etc. This will help with link building and at the same time keep Google happy, because we all know ‘if Google isn’t happy, nobody’s happy!’
